A Look at the Advantages of the 2024 Volvo XC90 over the Audi Q7

Premium seven-seater SUVs are a popular choice for families who want a safe and comfortable vehicle that stands out from the crowd, which is why many options are available on the market. One of these SUVs is the 2024 Volvo XC90, a stylish and technological vehicle that distinguishes itself in many ways. Here is how it compares against the Audi Q7.

More power

The 2024 Volvo XC90 is more powerful than the Audi Q7, both in standard form and when comparing the optional powertrain options. While Audi is normally known for making sporty vehicles, the Q7 only offers 261 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque with its standard engine, while the Volvo XC90 benefits from 295 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque thanks to its B6 turbo and supercharged mild-hybrid engine. When looking at available powertrains, the XC90 keeps its advantage over the Audi Q7 since its Recharge plug-in drivetrain combines the same gasoline engine with a strong electric system to provide an impressive output of 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque. In comparison, the Audi Q7 offers a V6 engine that manages 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. In fact, the only way to get an Audi seven-seater with more power than the XC90 Recharge would be to choose the SQ7, which costs about $30,000 more than an XC90 and only offers about 50 additional horsepower.

Better fuel efficiency

Thanks to its all-electrified choice of powertrains, the 2024 Volvo XC90 can boast better fuel consumption figures than the Audi Q7. Indeed, the XC90 powered with the mild-hybrid engine burns about 9.8 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres on average in combined driving, while the Audi requires 11.0 litres in the same conditions. Of course, opting for the XC90 Recharge makes this comparison even more advantageous for Volvo since its plug-in hybrid powertrain further reduces the amount of fuel needed on every trip, thanks in no small part to the electric ranges which makes it possible to drive 53 kilometres before the gasoline engine is needed.

A distinctive style

The 2024 Volvo XC90 also stands out from the Audi Q7 due to its elegant Scandinavian design. While Audi vehicles are usually elegant, they often end up blending in with other vehicles on the road. On the other hand, despite having been penned a while ago now, the Volvo XC90 still looks just as modern and distinctive as it did when it first arrived on the market. This is because the brand’s design language features both squared-off shapes that give an aura of strength and flowing lines that bring elegance and luxury into the mix. The same can be said of the interior, where the XC90 follows the tenets of Scandinavian minimalism and hospitability while the Q7 is a bit more austere, in the German tradition.
